TEAM Students Make Newark Cleaner
By tdesimon on February 4th, 2009
Many thanks to the dedication and hard work of nine TEAM Academy students and hundreds of other people (young and old alike) who work, live and learn in this city. Upper School (seventh and eighth Grade) students attended the 6th Annual Community Cleanup hosted by the City of Newark and the New Jersey Clean Communities Council, on October 2nd.
TEAM joined forces with the Greater Newark Conservancy and friends from the Urban Environment Institute to forge the “Tree Huggers” team. Using rakes, brooms, shovels, trash tongs and many trash bags we cleaned the streets of Newark until noon.
Students brought back rulers made of recycled denim, plastic, and pencils made from reclaimed U.S. currency. More importantly, they brought back good feelings about making Newark cleaner and being the change.
