THE LOTTERY
There is no event to attend.
TEAM Charter Schools does NOT host an event, often referred to as “the lottery,” for families to attend. Instead, we will attempt to contact all families by mail and/or phone in the month of February. At this time, there is no need to call us to find out if a student was selected in the lottery.
The Lottery
As a free public school, TEAM Charter Schools does not discriminate in admissions. Student are admitted by lottery. We serve special education students, gifted and talented students, and every student who is selected in the lottery. We do NOT consider grades, test scores, recommendations, or behavioral history in the lottery. The application deadline is January 22 and all applications submitted before this date will be treated equally.
If more students apply for admission than there are seats to accommodate them, a closed (non-public) lottery is held and students are chosen randomly. All applicants have an equal chance of being selected. However, New Jersey law does provide for immediate siblings of current students to receive priority in filling open seats if an application is received before the lottery. In addition, we are required to give priority to Newark residents.
About Enrollment
Kindergarten & 5th Grade Enrollment
There will be approximately 100 seats available for Kindergarten and approximately 200 seats for 5th grade. The child entering Kindergarten MUST be five (5) years old by October 1, 2010 to qualify.
Other Grades
There may be very limited amounts of seats, if any, available for students entering grades 1 and 6-12. The enrollment process for these grades is handled separately and families are contacted later in the school year. TEAM Charter Schools does maintain a waitlist for students in all grades.
