Rise Oratory Contest Finals

Come join us tonight for the final round of the Rise Academy Oratory Contest…

We started out with 238 Risers. . . then narrowed the field down to 60 Risers. . . tonight only 20 Risers are still standing – competing for the top prize, and of course the bragging rights as the top orator in their class. Tonight we will see 6 of the finalists rise to the top. —–

Science Park High School (auditorium)
260 Norfolk St. Newark, NJ

Note:
Unfortunately, Science High does not have a school parking lot and so please factor in time to park and make your way into the auditorium.

Time:
5 – 7pm

Rise Academy Won EVERY Trophy in the Math Competition Junior Division

Please congratulate the following students when you see them.

Individual Head-to-Head Competition (Junior Division)
1st place: Ashli Fitts (GRADE 5!!)
2nd place: Rakieer Jenninigs

Team Competition (Junior Division)
1st place: Rise A – Ashli Fitts, Soular Andrews, Aliyyah Torres, Nettia Conyers
2nd place: Rise B – Rakieer Jennings, Michael Riera, Nanayaw Appiah-Kubi, Samir Rice

Also of note: 6 out of the top 8 scorers in the individual competition were Rise students (all of the above except Soular and Samir, though samir’s scoresheet was graded wrong so technically, he should have been in the head-to-head also)

The next competition is in March.

Parent Discussion

Thanks to everyone who was able to join us on Monday night. The new Rise basement was packed with parents and students who sat in on the discussion with Karl Reid of the UNCF. We hope to do more events like this in the future, and the strong attendance shows how important that is.

THIS EVENT HAS PASSED: Please join us in a network wide parent discussion at Rise Academy on student achievement. This discussion is about getting our kids motivated to do better in school. The guest speaker, Karl Reid, is from the United Negro College Fund and has lots of experience working with kids and parents. He is looking forward to a good conversation. Please join our parents and bring your questions!

It starts at 6 PM at Rise, Monday, February 2nd.

New Rise Basement

The new science lab, recently completed in the exciting Rise Academy basement reconstruction, is ready for next year’s students. Final touches are being completed elsewhere in the project.

The new basement will house Rise Academy’s first eighth grade class. TEAM Schools typically begin with one grade, adding one grade level each following year until reaching capacity. Rise Academy will do so next year with 360 students in it’s campus at 21 Ashland St.

Below are some pictures of the recent reconstruction. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to such a necessary and exciting project.

Honor Roll Ceremony – T1

Congratulations to all the hard-working students who received honor roll this trimester. The event was well attended by both staff and parents.

End of Year Trips 2007

Students at TEAM Schools earn everything they receive from the shirts on their backs to life-changing trips at the end of each year. Utah is one of the places Rise Academy students went in June of last year. Click the photo to view more pictures.
